Europe was built before the advent of the automobile. As such, the European landscape is dotted with towns and villages that are seldom more than a few kilometres apart. The principal activities that we practice as we visit a destination – cycling and walking – fit perfectly within the rich geography that is Europe. An hour or two of activity in the morning and afternoon means passing through several towns and villages, allows for events and stops along the way, and interaction with locals. There is a genuine appreciation shown by country and towns folk alike as we take the time to explore their culture in detail, using a slower, gentler mode of transport.
Each destination may be better suited to either cycling or walking – let’s face it, hiking in the Pyrenees is a lot more fun for most of us than cycling – but many areas allow for both. It’s also quite fun to get out on the water if the destination is coastal or has a major river running through it. Europe is also the birthplace of golf and many destinations have a good golf course nearby for guests looking to play a round in a foreign country. Many destinations can accommodate horseback riding as well. The hotel properties that we use are almost always equipped with a swimming pool, and many have tennis courts as well as on-site health spas. We pride ourselves on being able to provide as much or as little activity as each guest desires, that’s what a custom company is all about.
