Volpaia
Tuscany
The tiny hilltop town of Volpaia is captivating for its past as well as for its present. Lying between Florence and Siena it was constantly fought for by armies from both of these rival city states. Always a wine and olive oil producing village it was purchased in the early 1960s in a dilapidated condition by the Stianti family. The village has literally been transformed by owner Giovannella Stianti-Mascheroni. The most amazing aspect of Volpaia is the fact that while on the outside it appears to be a town straight out of the Middle Ages, its inner workings are brushed stainless steel and computer automated wine making equipment. Volpaia wines are exceptional thanks to a complete focus on quality.
