Private Burgundy journey
Day 1
Arrival - Dijon to Gilly-les Citeaux
Today's itinerary
Pick-up from the TGV station or your hotel in Dijon. Transfer south to Gilly-les-Citeaux and our château for the next two nights.
This afternoon’s warm-up ride takes us to the Abbaye de Citeaux, not far from our hotel. The Abbey is an important site as it was monks residing here that had the biggest impact on the vineyards of the Côte d’Or. At the Abbey we’ll sample the cheese made on-site and taste some well-matched Burgundy.
Pre-dinner cocktails followed by a gourmet meal in Château de Gilly’s atmospheric dining room.
Overnight at Château de Gilly.
Dijon
Dijon is the capital of the Côte d’Or from an administrative point of view and contains many important sites. It has excellent TGV connections from Paris and other major cities in France and Europe. If you decide to spend the night before in Dijon we know a terrific local guide who can give a wonderful tour of the old town and the Palais des Ducs.
Hôtel Château de Gilly
Hôtel Château de Gilly is a 4 star luxury hotel located near Vougeot in the Côte de Nuits. This former Cistercian Hunting Lodge has been renovated with taste and features large bedrooms decorated in expensive fabrics, a large outdoor swimming pool, a gourmet restaurant in a vaulted medieval former wine cellar, tennis courts, and formal French gardens.
