Private Tuscany journey
Day 1
Arrival – Florence to our private Villa
Today's itinerary
Rendez-vous in Florence at 9:00 – 9:30 hrs.
From Florence we drive south for about 45 minutes to the village of Poggio San Polo and Podere le Rose. Along the scenic journey we pass the sculpted vineyards and hilltop castles that have become the familiar Tuscan signature.
Cooking School at Podere le Rose - Upon arrival, the group will participate in a fun, hands-on cooking class. Teams will assist in preparing true Tuscan bruschetta, learn the secrets of making pizza, fresh pasta and the accompanying sauces. Before feasting on the fruits of our efforts, there is the dessert to create –the ever-popular tiramisù. After all of the cooking and baking, enjoy a copious lunch in the garden.
Lunch at Podere Le Rose.
After lunch we will continue on to Villa Collalto.
Once at the Villa there will be time to get settled in and, for those interested, a chance to get on the bikes and do a warm-up ride to the village of Casole d’Elsa and back (30 kms total).
This evening we will have an introduction aperitivo on the terrace followed by a gourmet dinner at our villa.
Overnight at Villa Collalto.
Podere le Rose
Not far from Radda in Chianti, near the village of Lecchi, is the tiny hamlet of Poggio San Polo. In a large farmhouse with two teaching kitchens, Paola and Simonetta de’Mari, and local chef Alvaro, take guests through a hands-on introduction to Tuscan cuisine. Make fresh pasta, rustic salads, mouth-watering sauces and delicious desserts with our talented and welcoming hosts.
Villa Collalto
Photo of Villa Collalto Villa Collalto is the long-time private home of a successful, prominent Roman family. They have recently completed a ten-year renovation of the entire estate which has included the reconfiguration of the interior to provide ensuite accommodation in every bedroom, and the inclusion of air conditioning in both bedrooms and gathering rooms.
There is no other villa for this number of people of such uniformly high standards for rent in Tuscany. This is truly a property without peer.
Anyone familiar with Tuscany will know Chianti, nestled between Florence and Siena. The famous town of San Gimignano lies to the north of the hamlet of Collalto, the ancient family seat of the owners of the Villa which continues as a hilltop community even to this day. Colle Val d'Elsa is nearby, Siena is 20 minutes, Florence 40 minutes.
The main structure, started in the 1300's and then added to and changed at the end of the 1800's, rises majestically as the focal point of a pleasant courtyard ringed with additional accommodations for guests and staff. A fresh coat of butter colored paint has been applied to all the buildings.
Gardens, patios and recreational facilities are all carefully designed to provide maximum privacy from the house and make full use of the lovely views. A staff of eight, including a masterful chef, look after guests with care and professionalism.
